Laser eye surgery has become so widely available
throughout the Southeastern United States
that hundreds of people each day walk into a
laser vision correction center with glasses
or contact lenses and leave an hour later
knowing that they might be able to throw
them away.
One of the most important steps for any patient
considering laser eye surgery is to select a
surgeon with skill and experience. “As an
eye doctor myself, I know how important
experience is when it comes to eye
care…especially for this kind of specialized
surgery,” said Dr. Ted McElroy, an
optometrist from Tifton, Ga. “That’s why I
chose Dr. Jonathan Woolfson to perform my
surgery.”
In fact, McElroy was Dr. Woolfson’s 40,000th
LASIK procedure using a state-of-the-art
VISX laser. LASIK, technically known as
laser in-situ keratomileusis, is the most
common type of laser eye surgery for
improving vision and eliminating or reducing
the need for glasses or contact lenses.
Dr. Woolfson, one of the most experienced LASIK
surgeons in the country, is the “doctor’s
doctor” when it comes to eye surgery.
Hundreds of eye doctors have chosen Dr.
Woolfson for their own laser vision
correction. Moreover, patients from around
the world come to him for LASIK. Dr.
Woolfson customizes each patient's
procedure, utilizing various lasers,
instruments and techniques to maximize
patient results.
“For the majority of patients, LASIK is a
life-altering procedure that improves their
vision and reduces the need for corrective
eyewear,” said Dr. Woolfson. “In fact, 99%
of my patients achieve 20/40 vision or
better following LASIK, which is sufficient
for driving without glasses or contact
lenses. And the vast majority of patients
can expect to achieve 20/20 vision or
better.”
Most patients treated by Dr. Woolfson qualify for
his Lifetime Assurance Program. “Patients
really value this program,” he said,
“because it assures them that we will be
there in the future should they need
follow-up treatment.”
As Medical Director and founder of Woolfson Eye
Institute, Dr. Woolfson has dedicated his
career to refractive surgery. As a result of
his extensive experience, he regularly
trains other refractive surgeons how to
perform LASIK and has served as an FDA
clinical investigator.
Dr. Woolfson received his medical degree from
Vanderbilt University and completed his
ophthalmology residency at Emory University
. He is a Board Certified Diplomate of the
American Board of Ophthalmology, and has
been honored for three consecutive years as
recipient of the prestigious VISX Star
Award, as one of the top 5% of laser vision
correction surgeons in the country.
Woolfson Eye Institute has locations in Atlanta,
Ga.; Lawrenceville, Ga.; Gainesville, Ga.;
Stockbridge, Ga.; Covington, Ga.; Asheville,
N.C.; Chattanooga, Tenn.; Knoxville, Tenn.;
