Astigmatism occurs when
parallel rays from an external source do not converge on a
single focal point on the
retina. It is a condition in which your eye, rather than being round, is shaped more like a football. If you have astigmatism, you have a distortion of vision that causes overall blurriness. You can have astigmatism in addition to being
myopic or
hyperopic.
