The Visian ICL is a state-of-the-art solution that can be ideal for many with the need or desire for quality vision correction. Woolfson Eye Institute (WEI) has selected the Visian ICL for patients with severe to moderate myopia (nearsighted) that are not good candidates for LASIK or would prefer the premium advantages of an implantable contact lens.

Good candidates for the Visian ICL include patients:

• Between the ages of 21 and 45.
  
• Nearsighted with or without astigmatism or farsighted, including those with mild, moderate, and severe myopia (as low as -3D to as high as -20D prescription) with minor or no occurrence of astigmatism.
  
• Have sufficient anterior chamber depth and acceptable endothelial cell density (this will be determined by your highly trained Woolfson surgeon during your comprehensive evaluation).
  
• Have not had a change in their eyeglass prescription of more than 0.5D in a year.
  
• Not currently pregnant.
  
• No other contraindications including no known allergies to medications used during refractive surgery.
  
• Have dry eyes, severe myopia, or a thin cornea (non-LASIK candidate).

The implantation procedure for the Visian ICL involves a procedure similar to that of cataract surgery. The main difference is that, unlike cataract surgery, the Visian ICL procedure does not require the removal of the eye's crystalline lens. And unlike the LASIK or PRK refractive procedures, the Visian ICL procedure does not involve the removal of sensitive eye tissue.

The Visian ICL procedure is a short 15-minute outpatient procedure that is performed in our state-of-the-art Ambulatory Surgery Center.
