A chalazion is a painless bump on the inside of the upper or lower eyelid. Chalazia result from healed internal stys. These bumps or nodules form around an oil gland within the eyelid. Many chalazia go away on their own, especially when facilitated by warm compresses or a gentle massage of the eyelid.

If you are more prone to developing chalazia, preventative regimens may be prescribed. The most commonly prescribed treatments include regular cleaning of the eye and application of medicine on the eyelid. Oral medication may also be used for underlying conditions.
