Alina Usataia, OD

Dr. Alina Usataia was born in Moldova, lived in Germany, and immigrated to Canada when she was a child. She attended the University of Toronto for her undergraduate studies, double majoring in Cell and Molecular Biology, Health and Disease, and minoring in Physiology. She then moved to the US to pursue her doctorate degree and graduated with High Distinction from the Michigan College of Optometry.

She was actively involved in her college, serving as the Community Service Chair for the Optometric Student Government, a position she held for two consecutive terms during which she organized and spearheaded a myriad of volunteering initiatives on campus. At her college, Dr. Alina also served as the Secretary for the American Optometric Student Association and was appointed as an Admissions Student Ambassador, conducting student interviews of prospective Michigan College of Optometry applicants. Dr. Alina has participated in the American Optometric Association Leadership Society and has her Student Fellowship from the American Academy of Optometry. She is also a member of the 2021 Class of the Georgia Optometric Association Leadership Academy.

Dr. Alina’s clinical passion lies in the treatment and management of ocular disease, with a particular interest in glaucoma. She received the Excellence in Low Vision Achievement Commencement Award for her care of patients living with irreversible vision loss. Dr. Alina chose her clinical rotations with an emphasis on ocular pathology, completing her externships at a private practice in rural Canada, the Charleston Veteran Affairs Hospital, and the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Alina is humbled and honored to serve the patients of Atlanta as an Ocular Disease Resident of the Woolfson Eye Institute.

Outside of optometry, Dr. Alina enjoys spending time outdoors, whether it’s hiking, camping, or visiting National Parks. She loves to travel and immerse herself in different cultures, having visited Thailand, Colombia, Japan, Philippines, and many other wonderous places.
