Douglas G. Day, MD
Director of Glaucoma Services
Dr. Day is a highly regarded glaucoma specialist practicing at Woolfson Eye Institute. Recognized as a pioneer in his field, he is actively involved with Coastal Research Associates, LLC in the research into and treatment of glaucoma through advancements in surgical and medical management. Dr. Day has authored numerous papers and clinical perspectives that have appeared in peer-reviewed journals and has been an invited lecturer on his extensive clinical research into glaucoma.
FDA Clinical Studies:
Through his work on new surgical and medical techniques, Dr. Day has helped develop faster and better testing for the detection and tracking of glaucoma. Due to his groundbreaking glaucoma treatment approaches, he is frequently asked to consult and advise pharmaceutical companies and ophthalmic device manufacturers. Thanks to this research, he is proud to offer the XEN® Gel Stent to his glaucoma patients. This stent is a surgical implant designed to lower high eye pressure in open-angle glaucoma patients where previous surgical treatment has failed and/or medications alone were insufficient.
Accomplishments and Memberships:
Dr. Day is a member of the Robert N. Shaffer Glaucoma Society and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is a graduate of the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston. He completed his internship at the University of Texas and his residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Arizona, Tucson, and the University of Illinois, Eye and Ear Infirmary, Chicago. He completed his fellowship in glaucoma at the University of California School of Medicine, San Francisco.
