Mark J. Weiner, MD, is a Board Certified ophthalmologist and a fellowship trained corneal surgeon with over 35 years of experience performing eye surgery. He received his Bachelor of Science degree, Summa Cum Laude, with distinction in chemistry from Yale College where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated from Harvard Medical School and then completed an ophthalmology residency at Washington University in St. Louis and a fellowship in corneal surgery at Harvard Medical School. He was the recipient of both the National Research Service Award and the Physician Scientist Award from the National Eye Institute and of the prestigious Heed, Heed/Knapp, and National Society to Prevent Blindness fellowship and research awards. After serving on the faculty of Harvard Medical School, he moved to Georgia (together with his wife, Nancy, a neuro-ophthalmologist) and began caring for patients in Canton. He has twice served as Chief of Surgery at Northside Hospital – Cherokee. He established the eye surgical unit at the hospital and was the first to perform small incision, no stitch cataract surgery there and the first to perform corneal transplant surgery in Cherokee County.

His knowledge of the field is supported by the more than 20 papers, publications, and articles he has authored and conferences he has directed. Dr. Weiner is active in many professional societies, as a Diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners, the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is deeply committed to the local community and was previously named the Cherokee County Small Business of the Month by the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce.
