Richard Mauer, MD, is a highly experienced ophthalmologist with more than 30 years of dedicated service in comprehensive eye care and surgery. Inspired early in life by a family member’s commitment to patient care, Dr. Mauer has built a career centered on clinical excellence, innovation, and a patient-first approach.
He began his career in Waterloo, Iowa, where he developed and led a thriving ophthalmology practice for three decades. His areas of expertise include small-incision cataract surgery, LASIK and PRK, glaucoma management, and medical retina treatments, including laser and injection therapies. He also provides specialized care in eye muscle disorders and eyelid surgery.
Dr. Mauer brings his extensive experience to Woolfson Eye–Asheville, where he focuses on advanced cataract surgery and oculoplastic procedures, including eyelid reconstruction and correction of functional eyelid conditions.
