jonathan-woolfson-123x300-4429660What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of LASIK surgery? I bet it’s John Heywood’s quote in his 1546 book “A dialogue conteinyng the nomber in effect of all the prouerbes in the Englishe tongue.”

In this book (paraphrasing), Heywood stated that, “Two heads are better than one.”

Wait a second, that isn’t the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of LASIK? Well, this is why it should be.

What does this have to do with LASIK surgery?

I’m sure by this point you are wondering why we are talking about an author from the 1500s instead of how to improve your vision.

At Woolfson Eye Institute, we practice this methodology each and every day at our 9 LASIK surgery locations across the Southeastern United States. Simply put, we believe that two heads are better than one, which is why we work hand in hand with your referring optometrist to make sure you receive the highest level of care possible.

Our affiliate doctors

At Woolfson Eye Institute, we have a large network of affiliate optometrists who are a critical component of our quality assurance system. Optometrists around the Southeast send their patients to Woolfson Eye Institute to obtain the best results for their patients.

When an optometrist discovers that their patient is interested in LASIK and is likely a candidate for successful LASIK surgery, they will refer them to Woolfson Eye Institute for a full LASIK evaluation and consultation.

What happens next?

At this point, the patient will be seen by one of the Woolfson clinicians who specialize in determining candidacy for LASIK surgery. Each and every evaluating optometrist at Woolfson Eye Institute takes this initial consultation very seriously, and only recommends LASIK in situations where the patient exhibits all of the identifiable characteristics and traits for successful LASIK completion.

We are upfront with our patients and we discuss all of the important risks, benefits, and other factors that can impact your decision on whether or not to move forward with LASIK surgery.

What happens after my surgery?

Post-operative care is very important and is usually performed by your primary care optometrist. Occasionally, patients are advised to return to Woolfson Eye Institute for evaluation. After the year of follow-up care that comes with your surgical fee, you will continue to see your eye care professional for annual eye exams.

Anyone who says, “You will never have to see an eye doctor again after LASIK” is providing you with incorrect information or bad advice. It is important to see your primary optometrist to ensure you are progressing as expected and are not experiencing any issues that require further attention.

The Woolfson quality assurance difference

Our goal is to team up with your optometrist to provide extraordinary eye care before, during, and after your LASIK procedure. It’s part of an ongoing system of improvements in care and results.
